If you are resident of Red Hill interested in serving on a board or commission, please send a letter of interest to the Doris Decker, Council President, 56 W. 4th Street, Red Hill, PA  18076 or e mail to ddecker@redhillborough.org . The borough currently has three boards The Zoning Hearing Board, Planning Commission and the Building Board of Appeals.  Below is a brief description of each board.

 

ZONING HEARING BOARD

The Borough of Red Hill Zoning Hearing Board is a quasi-judicial body comprised of three (3) members, all of whom are appointed by Borough Council and must be residents of Red Hill Borough.

 

The Zoning Hearing Board conducts legally binding hearings and renders decisions on appeals from a decision made by the zoning officer, challenges to the validity of the zoning ordinance or zoning map, and requests for variances and special exceptions.

 

The Zoning Hearing Board meets on an as needed basis. Board members are appointed by Borough Council and receive no compensation

 

Board members are encouraged to attend education and training seminars.

 

PLANNING COMMISSION

The Planning Commission is an advisory board consisting of five (5) members serving four (4) year terms.  The Planning Commission makes recommendations to Borough Council on all land development and subdivision applications submitted to the Borough. The Commission plays an important role in keeping the Subdivision and Land Development and Zoning Ordinances up to date and in compliance with Pennsylvania's Municipalities Planning Code (MPC).

 

The majority of the Planning Commission’s duties pertain to the review of land development and subdivision plans, however, it also reviews proposed changes to the Zoning Ordinance and Zoning Map; proposed changes to the Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance, rezoning petitions, and conditional use applications.

 

A Planning Commission member cannot serve on the Zoning Hearing Board.  The Commissioners are appointed by Borough Council and receive no compensation

The Planning Commission meets the third Thursday of each month (as needed) at 7:00 p.m. in Borough Council Chambers, Borough Hall, 56 W. 4th Street, Red Hill

 

Commissioners are encouraged to attend education and training seminars.

 

BUILDING CODE BOARD OF APPEALS

The Board hears and rules on appeals, requests for variances and requests for extensions of time based on a claim that the true intent of the act or Uniform Construction Code (UCC) has been incorrectly interpreted, the provisions of the UCC do not fully apply or an equivalent form of construction is to be used.

 

Board members shall be qualified by training and experience to pass on matters pertaining to building construction, which may consist of licensure as an architect or engineer, experience in the construction industry and/or training or experience as an inspector or plan reviewer.

 

The Board consists of three (3) members.

 

No elected official and no employees within the Code Administration of the may serve on the Board. Board members are encouraged to attend education and training seminars.
